Bankok is the capital city of Thailand. It began many years ago as a small trading community and port centre. The name ‘Bankok’ came from many years ago and it is believed the name derived from a town situated on a river.

The name of the city is actually listed in the guniess book of records as the longest name for a city, as the ceremonial name for Bankok is, Krung-dēvamahānagara amararatanakosindra mahindrayudhyā mahātilakabhava navaratanarājadhānī purīramya uttamarājanivēsana mahāsthāna amaravimāna avatārasthitya shakrasdattiya vishnukarmaprasiddhi.

The ceremonial meaning behind this extremely long name is ‘city of angels, eternal jewel city and the great city’. Children who attend schooling in Bankok are actually taught how to pronounce and spell the long name as part of traditional beliefs the city has over the treasured name.

It is used in a song form, much like the english do when resiting the alphabet. It is easier for the youngsters to remember, and spell the name. Bankok is subdivided into fifty districts and then those into a further one hundred and sixty nine other places. Bankok is the sixty eighth largest provinence in Thailand.

Covering a 1,568.7 km2 and the Chao river which stretches a long 372km. The city is divided by plains and rivers wide spread throughout. Bankok lies about two meters about sea level and even though the plains protect, the city is also renounded for flooding when the rivers and canals are overflooded in a decent storm or downpoor.
